INHORGENTA Munich 2027 runs 19-22 February at Messe Munchen, organised by Messe Munchen GmbH. It is Europe's leading fair for jewellery, watches, gemstones and design — and it is the one fair where your insurer has more influence over the stand than your designer does.

The cabinet comes before the concept

At every other fair the display case is a design decision. Here it is an insurance condition. Cover for goods on a trade fair stand typically specifies lockable cases, laminated or security glazing, cases fixed so they cannot be lifted, and an overnight regime — either goods removed to a safe or a documented in-case arrangement your insurer has approved in writing.

Read the policy before the first sketch. The clause about how cases must be secured determines their construction, which determines their thickness, which determines how much of your floor they consume. We have redrawn stands because a policy required through-bolting into a floor the venue does not allow to be drilled. That is a two-week problem if you find it in January and a two-hour problem if you find it in September.

Lighting metal and lighting stone are two different jobs

Gold, silver and platinum are read by their reflections; gemstones are read by what happens to light inside them. A single lighting spec cannot do both well. Metal wants a broader source and controlled reflection so the surface does not shatter into hotspots. Stones want a small, intense, high-CRI source close to the piece so fire and colour show.

The practical answer is two circuits and two fixture types in the same cabinet, plus the discipline to keep ambient light off the glass so visitors see the pieces rather than themselves.

Istanbul is one of the world's significant jewellery manufacturing centres and Turkey is a major gold jewellery exporter. INHORGENTA is where German, Austrian and Swiss retail buying gets decided, and the fair runs annually in February — the buying season for the year ahead.

Our honest position on this fair

If you are showing a compact collection and your buyers already know you, a well-lit modular stand with two good cabinets will serve you better than a large custom build. Put the budget in the cases and the lighting; that is what the buyer actually looks at. And check whether the organiser's own cabinet rental meets your policy — sometimes it does, and then you need us for very little.

Design in Istanbul, build in Germany, and nothing valuable travels with the structure.
