METU Rectorate — Permanent Exhibition Space Build

Not a fair, not a retail environment — this is a permanent institutional exhibition space inside the METU Rectorate building in Ankara. The brief covers three overlapping uses: a fixed presentation of the university's history, a rotating showcase of active research programmes, and visitor-facing space for delegations and academic guests.

Institutional-permanent design has different constraints from exhibition-stand work. Life expectancy is measured in years, not days. Materials have to age gracefully under continuous fluorescent lighting. Wayfinding must work for both first-time visitors and daily staff. Signage has to allow content updates without full rebuild.

We designed the space with modular case-work walls that allow display swaps without touching structural finishes, museum-grade LED spotlighting rated for institutional daily-use hours, and a materials palette (light oak, brushed aluminium, neutral fabric) that reads institutional-formal without being sterile. Content-agnostic geometry is the trick — the space needs to look coherent whether it's showing 1956 university photos or a 2026 research grant announcement.
