Two Paris Venues, Two Different Builds

Most Paris trade shows happen at one of two places, and they are not interchangeable. Getting this wrong at the quoting stage is the most common reason a Paris budget moves after it has been approved.

Paris Expo Porte de Versailles sits inside the city, in the 15th arrondissement. That is excellent for your visitors and awkward for your stand. Access is through an urban street network with restricted lorry movements, delivery windows are tight, and there is no space to park a trailer and unload at leisure. Anything oversized has to be planned as a scheduled delivery rather than turned up with. EquipHotel runs here — we built the Pioli stand at it — and the show reinforces the point: hospitality exhibitors bring heavy equipment into a venue that makes heavy equipment difficult.

Paris Nord Villepinte is the opposite. It sits beside Charles de Gaulle airport, north of the city, with the loading access you would expect of a modern out-of-town ground. SIAL, Maison&Objet and Première Vision run here. Freight is straightforward; the cost lands on your team instead, because everyone commutes out from central Paris every morning and the day gets longer at both ends.

Both are operated by VIPARIS, so the paperwork logic is similar — but hall heights, rigging rules and build-up schedules differ between them, and a layout drawn for one does not simply move to the other.

Why French crew matters more than it sounds

French venues expect to be dealt with in French — not as a courtesy, but operationally. Technical queries during build-up, safety walkthroughs, last-minute power or rigging requests, and any dispute over what was ordered versus what arrived all move faster when someone on your side speaks the language. We plan for that rather than discovering it on the build-up morning. It is the single most underestimated line in a foreign contractor's Paris quote.

Istanbul to Paris

We produce in Istanbul and move by road. Paris is a comfortable European truck run and the distance is rarely the problem — the customs paperwork is. We clear ATA Carnet documentation before the truck loads, not at the border, because a stand held at a frontier for a missing document costs you build-up days you cannot buy back. Sea freight makes no sense for this route. Air freight is for the item that got left behind.

Working backwards from a Paris opening: space and stand number confirmed first, then design brief and 3D, four to six weeks of Istanbul production, truck departing around two weeks before, and assembly during the venue's build-up window. Starting inside eight weeks is possible, but bespoke joinery and long-lead finishes come off the table first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Paris venue is my trade show at, and does it change the stand?

It changes it a lot. Paris Expo Porte de Versailles is inside the city in the 15th arrondissement — good for visitors, difficult for freight, with restricted lorry access and tight delivery windows, so oversized elements must be scheduled rather than simply delivered. Paris Nord Villepinte sits beside Charles de Gaulle airport with straightforward loading access, but your team commutes out of central Paris every morning. Both are operated by VIPARIS, yet hall heights, rigging rules and build-up schedules differ, and a layout drawn for one does not transfer cleanly to the other.

Do I need French-speaking crew on site in Paris?

In practice, yes. French venues expect to be dealt with in French operationally, not just as a courtesy — technical queries during build-up, safety walkthroughs, last-minute power or rigging requests and any dispute about what was ordered all resolve faster with a French speaker on your side. It is the most commonly underestimated line in a foreign contractor's Paris quote, and we plan for it rather than discover it on the build-up morning.
