IDEF 2027 — the 18th International Defence Industry Fair — runs 3-9 May 2027 at the Istanbul Fair Center. The fair is held under the authority of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (Türk Silahlı Kuvvetlerini Güçlendirme Vakfı), hosted by the Ministry of National Defence with the support of the Presidency of Defence Industries, and organised by KFA Fuarcılık.

## First: There Is No IDEF 2026

If you searched for IDEF 2026, that fair does not exist. IDEF runs on a two-year cycle: IDEF 2025 was the 17th edition, IDEF 2027 is the 18th. Nothing is scheduled in between.

Two things about the 2027 edition catch experienced exhibitors out:

  • The fair moved from July to May. IDEF 2025 ran 22-27 July. IDEF 2027 runs 3-9 May. That is roughly eleven weeks earlier in the year, and it compresses every downstream deadline by the same amount. If you are working from a plan built around the old July slot, your stand deadline is already two and a half months tighter than you think.
  • Space sales are opening now. The organiser states the IDEF 2027 stand sales process will be announced shortly through official channels. Space allocation is the gate that unlocks stand design — you cannot finalise a layout before you know your hall, stand number and how many sides are open.

## What Changes When the Fair Is in Your Own City

Most of our event guides talk about freight windows and customs buffers. For IDEF, that entire section disappears — and that is the point.

Our workshop is in Kağıthane, roughly 25 minutes from the Istanbul Fair Center. For an Istanbul-built stand at an Istanbul fair:

  • No international freight, no customs clearance. The two longest and least controllable items in a normal stand programme are simply absent. That removes the single most common cause of a stand opening incomplete.
  • Late changes stay possible. A component that would be unfixable in Bangalore or Riyadh — a damaged panel, a missing bracket, a client who wants the logo wall moved two metres — is a van trip. Decisions that are normally frozen twelve weeks out stay open much later.
  • Same-day service during the show. If something fails on day two of a seven-day fair, we can be on site with a replacement the same morning. On a seven-day run that matters more than on a three-day one.
  • Physical mock-up before the show. Because there is no shipping constraint, we can assemble the stand in the workshop and have you walk it before it goes to the hall. Most exhibitors have never seen their stand standing up before opening day.

That last point is the one clients tend to underestimate. Seeing the actual sightlines, the actual meeting room size and the actual graphic scale two weeks early is the difference between fixing a problem and living with it.

## Designing a Defence Stand for a Seven-Day Fair

IDEF runs seven days — more than twice the length of a typical trade fair. That changes the brief in ways that are easy to miss:

  • Staff endurance becomes a design input. Seven days of standing is punishing. Seating behind the front line, a genuinely closed back-of-house area, storage for personal items and a place to eat are not luxuries on a fair this long; they determine whether your team is still selling on day six.
  • Surfaces have to survive. Finishes that look immaculate for three days show wear by day five. Specify accordingly, particularly on counter edges, door frames and flooring at the entry point.
  • Delegation scheduling spreads out. With ministerial and military delegations visiting across a full week on fixed escorted schedules, the stand needs a receiving sequence that works repeatedly: a greeting position, a presentation position, and seating for a group — physically in that order.
  • Closed briefing space is the core requirement. Defence conversations are frequently confidential. A stand with only open meeting tables cannot host the meetings that justify the cost of exhibiting. This is the single most common design failure we see at defence fairs.
  • Controlled sightlines from the aisle. What is visible to the public should be a decision, not an accident. Product displays, screens and documentation each need a considered position.
  • Secure, genuinely lockable storage for documentation, samples and equipment.
  • Power and data redundancy. A live demonstration system failing during a scheduled delegation slot is not recoverable.

## Our IDEF Track Record

We have built in this hall. At IDEF 2025 we delivered stands for PeakEye, EMCO and the China Defence Pavilion; Power Time is a further IDEF client. Beyond IDEF, our defence work includes Baykar (Marrakech Air Show, Expodefensa Bogotá, World Defense Show Riyadh), the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) at BSDA Bucharest, STM at UDT Bremen, the Turkish Defence Pavilion at Eurosatory Paris, and the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan at SAHA Expo.

The practical value of having built the China Defence Pavilion in the same venue is unglamorous but real: we know the hall's rigging rules, floor limits, loading access, and how the build schedule actually runs versus how it reads in the manual.

## Planning Timeline

Planning windows from our project practice for a stand opening 3 May 2027. Confirm official deadlines against your exhibitor manual — and note the May date means each of these is roughly eleven weeks earlier than the old July cycle.

  • Now — mid 2026: Watch for the space sales announcement. For a fair in your home market with a fixed hall, early allocation is the main lever on position.
  • Late 2026: Space confirmed; hall and stand number known. Design begins properly here.
  • December 2026 - January 2027: Concept design and 3D sign-off. Briefing room position and delegation flow decided now, not later.
  • February 2027: Technical drawings, structural calculations, venue submission. Export or import documentation started for any controlled items being displayed — this remains the longest lead item even for a domestic fair.
  • March 2027: Production. Long-lead items first.
  • April 2027: Workshop assembly and client walkthrough — the step that only a home-market build allows.
  • Late April 2027: On-site build, systems test, delegation-flow rehearsal.
  • 3 May 2027: Doors open.

## Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is IDEF 2027? 3-9 May 2027 at the Istanbul Fair Center. It is the 18th International Defence Industry Fair.

Is there an IDEF 2026? No. IDEF is biennial. IDEF 2025 was the 17th edition (22-27 July 2025) and IDEF 2027 is the 18th. There is no edition in 2026.

Why did the dates move from July to May? The 2027 edition is scheduled for 3-9 May, roughly eleven weeks earlier than the 2025 edition's July slot. Plan your production and approval deadlines against May, not July.

Who organises IDEF? It is held under the authority of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation and organised by KFA Fuarcılık, hosted by the Ministry of National Defence with the support of the Presidency of Defence Industries.

Have you built at IDEF before? Yes — PeakEye, EMCO and the China Defence Pavilion at IDEF 2025, and Power Time at an earlier edition.

What is the advantage of an Istanbul-based builder for IDEF? No freight, no customs, late changes remain possible, same-day service during the show, and a full workshop mock-up you can walk before the stand ever reaches the hall.
